He was born in Magek, Tilatang Kamang Sub-District, Agam District, West Sumatra Province, 2 October 1965. He studied in Indonesian Literature Department, Andalas University, Padang. Both in his home town as well as in the capital, he joined and founded a number of communities. His poems can be found in a number of Indonesian and Malaysian mass media since 1983 as well as in anthologies and collections.
He won a number of poetry writing competitions, such as Taraju Award (1993/1994), Sanggar Minum Kopi Award (1994) and Batu Baramal Malang (1994/1995). Negeri Selalun Dendang (2004/VCD), Rohmantik (DVD/2005), dan Kehilangan Iga (2004/VCD) are his personal collections in the form of poetry concert live in many cities in Indonesia.
