Eka Kurniawan. He was born in Tasikmalaya, West Java, 28 November 1975. He completed higher education at Faculty of Philosophy in Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta. He was selected as one of the “Global Thinkers of 2015” people by the journal Foreign Policy. His books are Pramoedya Ananta Toer dan Sastra Realisme Sosialis (Yayasan Aksara Indonesia, 1999; Penerbit Jendela, 2002; Gramedia Pustaka Utama, 2006), kumpulan cerpen Corat-coret di Toilet (Aksara Indonesia, 2000), Cinta tak Ada Mati dan Cerita-cerita Lainnya (Gramedia Pustaka Utama, 2005), Gelak Sedih dan Cerita-cerita Lainnya (Gramedia Pustaka Utama, 2005) and Perempuan Patah Hati yang Kembali Menemukan Cinta Melalui Mimpi (2015).
A number of his short stories had been translated into English and Swedish. His novel Cantik Itu Luka (Penerbit Jendela, 2002; Gramedia Pustaka Utama, 2004) was translated into Japanese by Ribeka Ota and published by Shinpu-sha, 2006, and was also translated by Annie Tucker (New DIrections Publishing, 2015). His novel Lelaki Harimau (Gramedia Pustaka Utama, 2004) was translated by Labodalih Sembiring into Man Tiger (Verso Books, 1 Oktober 2015). His other book is Seperti Dendam Rindu Harus Dibayar Tuntas (2014). In 2016, Man Tiger was listed in the nomination for The Man Booker International Prize 2016. He lives in Jakarta with his wife, Ratih Kumala.
